AI EMPOWERED EDU

The incorporation of AI-based technologies in the K-12 education system requires us to place a new stakeholder at the forefront of our conversations about technological equity: young people. What does transforming the role of  new technologies look like from the youth perspective? In this presentation, we will introduce the audience to the Oregon Chapter of Encode Justice, a global coalition of youth activists fighting for justice, accountability and transparency in the digital age. From the Oregon DOJ/DOE to organizations like PDX Privacy, EFF and Smart City PDX, we will explain how we have engaged with statewide stakeholders in promoting inclusive policy, research, and education around Generative AI in the classroom and currently existing data privacy laws.
